Flower Horn (Hua Luo han) Story

It was back in the 90's when I was introduced to Flower Horns by Mr. Jojo Velasco a known Flowerhorn or kamfa enthusiast and a breeder of quality luo han fish in the Philippines, back then it was originally known as "kirin"  but did popularized as Flower horn. What is a Flower horn anyway? a Flower horn is an ornamental fish under family of cichlidae, these ornamental fish is a result of cross breeding American Cichlids, with thorough selection to achieve their desired body shape, Color and the famous head protuberance, or kok, is formally termed a "nuchal hump.hump.".

Origin

By 1994, red devil cichlids (typically Amphilophus labiatus) and trimac cichlids (Amphilophus trimaculatus) are the only few American cichlids that had been identified as ancestors of the beautiful Flower horn. It is said the the Malaysians who were to first introduced the flower horn to the world.

People had made several variety based on color and shape,

During the flowerhorn craze I was able to keep some variety like the scarlet, red texas and other Flowerhorns.  I got my flower horns from Jojo V. he was I think the no. 1 known source of these fish in the Philippines as he order them from overseas but when he was able to acquire good strains he bred them himself to created his own., at that time I was only in college, and I always drop by at Jojo's shop waiting for a good strain to keep.
